Northern lights on the Churchill River

Each year we take a group of guests up to Churchill for our Northern Lights and Winter Nights experience, a 6-day/7-night excursion focusing on the dancing skies of northern Canada.

During the day guests enjoy snowshoeing, dog sledding and visiting Churchill's famous Itsanitaq Museum and Parks Canada Interpretive Centre. 

During the evenings, we take guests out across the frozen Churchill River via Tundra Buggy to the edge of the Boreal forest to experience the northern lights away from the lights of Churchill.

In previous years we have outfitted our Tundra Buggy with couches and tables for our guests, as well as the pre-existing fireplace that is already installed in the Buggy, so that they might have somewhere to warm up during the evenings spent photographing the lights on the river. 

This year we decided to take our guests comfort to the next level.

The Thanadelthur Lounge Northern Lights Viewing Experience

Earlier this week our Churchill team moved our Tundra Buggy Lodge lounge - which will now be called the Thanadelthur Lounge during northern lights season - onto the frozen Churchill River in anticipation of the upcoming adventure.

View the northern lights from inside the warm Thanadelthur Lounge by peering out through the panoramic windows while sipping on a warm cup of coffee, or climb onto the observation deck for an unobstructed view. Or, for the warm-blooded, climb right down onto the ground to watch and photograph the northern lights directly from the tundra.

This year, surrounded by wilderness, our guests can stay warm inside the Thanadelthur Lounge while enjoying the 360 degree views from the comfort of our mobile viewing lounge.
