Serenading Churchill's Beluga Whales

Written by Frontiers North | Apr 5, 2016 2:14:29 PM

Rob Knaggs travelled to Canada two years ago for an adventure in Canada’s north. He landed a job in Churchill, Manitoba for the busy polar bear season in autumn and has spent much of his time there ever since.

Each year Frontiers North partners with explore.org and Polar Bears International for the Polar Bear Cam - a live feed video of Churchill's polar bears that can be watched around the world from the comfort of your own home.

In the past two years we’ve added another wildlife camera – the Churchill Beluga Cam that broadcasts live footage of beluga whales in the Churchill River to viewers around the world.

Last summer Rob, an experienced musician, had the opportunity to board the Beluga Boat with Frontiers North Interpretive Guide and Beluga Boat Captain Hayley Shephard and play his cello for the curious beluga whales. Rob’s music was broadcast under water and had a magical effect.

The video of Rob serenading the beluga whales with his cello has been shared around the world. Check out the video below for a behind the scenes look at Rob’s journey from Australia to Canada and his experience of playing music for the beluga whales.
